University of Herts 9 vs. Flapper’s 5’s 0

We lined up 4-2-3-1, with Dan Woolley In goal, Phil, John "9/10" Farrell, Rob and Tom Kelly Jr at the back, Mick & PJ holding the midfield, with Bradley and Don out wide leaving Tim to support top scorer Tom Kelly. Subs were Nick Platon, James Kelly and Jamie O'Brien.

The game couldn’t have started off any worse, as we went down 1-0 within 5 Minutes, about 15 minutes later we went down 2-0, 17 minutes into the game we were 3-0 down. Tactical changes, meant that we moved Tom Kelly Jr. in to a holding midfield position to combat their number 16 who, in all fairness was the type of player you’d love to have in your side but hate to play against, with his physical, bully tactics.

After the change in tactics started to look a lot better at the back, and actually started to pose some sort of threat going forward, tom Kelly with the pick of the chances in the first half trying to curl it round the keeper.

At half time we were somehow only 3-0 down, after the opposition had hit the bar a couple of times, and some real poor finishing from a couple of their players.
The first 35 minutes of the 2nd half saw us concede just the one goal, and created a number of chances by Nick. Our best chance was probably a header by young James, which the keeper saved.

The final 10 minutes saw us go, 5,6,7,8,9 nil down, as the opposition realised all they had to do was play a ball over the top for their number 9 to run on… Incidentally he ended up with 7 goals to himself!
A sad day, but in fairness, until the last 10 minutes, we continued to try and play football. An excellent opposition, on a marvellous carpet like pitch!

MOTM: Thomas Kelly Jr.
