Bealonians VII vs Ignatian V
Result Lost 4-0
The 5s travelled across to East London to pit our wits against a newly created Beals side in this 8 north fixture.
Having been at the wrong end of 7-0 & 7-1 results respectively the pre-match talk was about vastly improving on recent results and restoring some pride; Arthur Daly at right back, 8.33 Farrell was partnered by Wardy at Centre back and Billy Winter at left back. Platon was rewarded after an impressive game with a start at right midfield, joined by Tim, Charlie and Young Joe Brady in the centre of midfield. Don was out wide left and Captain Flapper upfront. Andre “speedy” Henry and Nick Clee started on the bench.
After some good all round team play we found ourselves 1-0 down, the 5s continued to plug away and went 2-0 down after the ref allowed their forward to put the ball into the net from an off-side position. We couldn’t really complain as the ref failed to award a penalty after Arthur had brought down one of their players in the box.
Andre was introduced after 30 minutes as I needed a breather, and he became the focal point with some good hold up play, linking well with the onrushing Charlie from midfield and Platon on the right.
The oppo scored a 3rd so we were 3-0 at half time. Nick Clee came on to replace the energetic Nick Platon at half time.
The half time talk was based around continuing the pattern of play and was a lot more positive than last weeks chat. After around 20 minutes of the second half, Arthur Daly was judged to have fouled the oppo in the box, this time the ref awarded the penalty. Tom Kelly produced a good low save to his left, but unfortunately the players failed to react to the save and the oppo scored from the replay.
Changes were made and we went 4-4-2 with Captain Farrance returning to the field, to replace Charlie.... We were awarded a penalty which I stepped up to take (much to the disappointment of record chasing Tom Kelly Snr, sadly the keeper saved it with an outstretched foot in the bottom right corner, (Tom, next penalty is yours!) the resulting corner was has headed just wide.
Andre ran onto a couple of through balls, one which he tried to chip the keeper, who made easy work of the save…. Minutes later he was put through one on one and again the keeper made a good save.
Final score 4-0… much improved and same level of commitment from all is needed again next week as we have the opportunity to put right a 7-0 defeat against Southgate Olympic on week 1 of the season.
MOTM: Steve Daly, followed closely by Charlie Poulter & Andre Henry.
