Old Ignatians 7 - 0 London Lawyers
Goalscorers: Jake Watson 3, Conor O'Grady 2, Sean
McDermott, Alex Youngman
Man: Jake Watson
Muppet: Jake Watson
After a weeks break from 1st team action the boys were
back at the Loyola to welcome bottom of the league London
Lawyers. The oppo won their first game of the season the
week before against a team that had beaten us
convincingly before christmas, so we were unsure of the
challenge ahead of us. Half term break had robbed us of
Tommy Martin which was an absolute blessing because he is
a melt. Dan Porter hadn't recovered from the Spurs
debacle in Gent so remained there to drown his sorrows.
Callum Barton had a bruised toe and was ruled out of this
through injury, as he has been for 85% of his career.
Cullycramps the dictator was also out as he has
Franklinitis and has yet to purchase a huge knee support
which will see him through his twilight years
We lined up strong however as follows:
Sean Noland, Matty 'Home Alone' O'Sullivan, Liam 'Tooth
Fairy' O'Grady, Sean Mcdermott
Eoin 'No Vision' O'Grady, Renaldo Gracias, Alex Youngman
Conor O'Grady, Jake Watson (c).
Sub: Jack Barton
So we had reshuffled slightly, with Joe fresh from a 2s
MOM getting the nod as JP was still searching for Payet
in Thailand. Also Conor O'G was making his first start in
almost a year as the physio had reassured him that his
leg is fine (it was never actually broken) and that it
was all in his mind. Which surprised a lot of us, as we
never knew he even had a brain, his dad included.
Jake was our stand in skipper today as Ren was searching
for his XXXL captains armband in the changing room whilst
the referee sorted the toss.
We started like a house on fire, Ren and Alex pressing
extremely well and giving no time to the Lawyers
midfielders which allowed us opportunities to free Jake
and Conor with through balls regularly. In the first 15
minutes or so we were struggling to find our range as
each ball seemed just a bit too far stretched with their
defence playing a high line and keeper sweeping
Eventually our pressure told, Jake surged down the right
and cut the ball back, Conor stepped over it and Sean McD
showed Eoin O'G how to tuck it away, with that cultured
left peg. 1-0.
Lawyers front line were martialled effectively by our
back line, with Liam showing Cullycramps how easy it is
to play cb when you have an ounce of pace and no grey
hair. Being a semi professional footballer does Liam a
lot of favours however, could probably play this kid
anywhere on the pitch and he'd boss it. Unless he needed
to buy a car.. or had a dentist appointment... or his
girlfriend tightened the leash.. Alas, that's another
tale for another day.
Ren closed his eyes and crossed a ball in, Jake nodded it
in. Easy. Vice captain into real captain. 2-0
Eoin O'G found space in the box shortly after, slid it
past the defender to Jake on his left peg, 3-0.
Halftime and the team talk revolved around being prepared
for whatever Lawyers would come out with in the second
half, preparing for an improved performance from them.
Eoin got the hook for the better Barton who slotted into
midfield, he immediately played Jake through whos shot
was saved into the path of Conor who tucked it away, the
boy is back. 4-0
Conor then played Jake through shortly after, tucked away
again on the left to complete the hat trick. 5-0.
Jake returned the favour shortly after, the Lawyers
defence screamed for offside but the ref was like cmon it
doesn't matter does it you melts, Conor did the rest and
made it 6-0.
Our last goal was possibly our best, we kept the ball
nicely in defence, worked it into midfield through Rory
and Ren, Ren laid it into Jake who, possibly tried to
return it to Ren/flick through to Alex... Alex ran onto
it and capped a very good performance with a goal. 7-0
So a comprehensive win, but we still have areas to
improve and we can't let a win like this mask the
problems we've had this year. Look like we're getting to
grips with the formation, Rory has slotted in nicely into
the midfield dictating from deep, and defensively we were
untroubled even with 3 defenders and a 4th team player at
right back. Albeit we've struggled with
injuries to players seemingly consistently all year, and
now we face a big test against league leaders Park View
Man was Jake, muppet was also Jake as he got sniped when
through on goal by Bradley Cooper in the trees behind the
far goal. Worth adding that Eoin O'G stood on the ball
and also fell over + took the worst free kick ever which
was hilarious, but because the little rat won't drink a
beer cos mummy says so, the lads ganged up on the stand
in skipper. Who also has to take the kit. Nightmare week.
