Old I's 1s v Beals (2-2)
Scorers: Jake x 2

The lads made the journey over to East London for what we
all knew would be a tough game against a strong Beals team
who are fighting for promotion.  We've previously been left
embarrassed by Beals with a 7-1 loss so we wanted a
victory, especially to kick start the day / night out.

We lined up with Joe in goal, Dan right back, Matty & Ena
centre back with Cal O'G slotting in at left back.  Liam
played just in front of the back four with Tom, Eoin O'G
and Sean McD running the middle.  Conor and Jake were up
top.
Rory and skipper Ren were on bench after missing last weeks
game.

The first 20 minutes saw Beals have the better possession
but we worked hard to break down their attacks and start
countering. After 30 mins, Liam and Sean McD were replaced
by Rory and the returning captain Renaldo.  We managed to
gain a bit more control and finished off the first half
with more self belief that we could get something out of
the game!

We started strong in the second half and while we were
defending well with Ena man marking their strong centre
forward Sawyer and Callum O’G keeping their tricky winger
quiet we began to see more of the ball and started working
up some chances.  We were ultimately rewarded when Renaldo
found Tommy on the right, who crossed the ball which was
met by possibly the worst re-enactment of a Di-Canio volley
in history by Jake.  The ball trickled into the corner, 1-
0.

Within two minutes of restarting their right winger made a
pass which immediately split our midfield / defence, I
can’t quite work out how it managed to slip past and end up
at the feet of one of their midfielders on the edge of our
box, who turned and finished passed the oncoming Joe.

On equal terms both teams were playing well but our
breakthrough come from a long ball from Rory which in this
instance he reckons he mish*t but managed to confuse the
Beals defence.  The defender and goalkeeper couldn’t decide
who was coming for the ball so Jake nipped in and stole the
ball to put us 2-1 up.

It was at this point where Beals started to become really
frustrated, in the past it seems that being the aggressor,
the east London lads would always scare teams off where
this week they started to turn their anger against
themselves, short fuse Sawyer was edging his way to a red
card with the help of Mattio and Ena so Beals management
thought it be best to drop him back to midfield so he could
see some of the ball.  There were a couple of instances
where you were left dumbfounded thinking this could only
happen at Beals - one that springs to mind was when the
ball ran maybe 6ft off the pitch and the winger was almost
touching the perimeter handrail but still carried on,
whatever happened to sportsmanship?

Beals, after gaining a bit of composure managed to get a
bit of football flowing again and were putting us under
pressure.  We had to work hard to breakdown their attacks
and it was great to see Jake, Con and the lads in midfield
working across the pitch closing players down.  I can’t
remember exactly how Beals equaliser came around, just that
it was a tad scrappy and ended with a massive deflection to
slip past Joe.

As is always the way when we meet Beals, things always
become a little heated but it’s all part of the game and
shows there is passion and desire to win.  Matty likes to
take it a little too far sometimes and was shutdown by the
ref with a swift 2nd yellow for attempting to intimidate
Sawyer.  Seemed like a harsh yellow and the Ref had booked
the wrong person & bottled it a bit maybe (sorry Ref).

Gutted to not have come away with the 3 points but glad we
had shown Beals that we are a good footballing team and can
battle with the best of them.

Man went to Jake for the two goals and work rate.
Muppet went to Renaldo for giving away the ball,
continuously running in circles and possibly losing his man
for the 2nd goal.

We then hit the O'Grady local in Chadwell Heath, followed
by Romford dogs and then experienced the nightlife in
Romford. It was late and it was messy!

Cheers

Liam
