1st XI 3 – Reigations 3
(HT 2:2)
Scorers: Alex Youngman (x2) Conor O'Grady

Man: Steve English
Muppet(s) Jack and Renaldo

Everyone made the long trip from one edge of the big city
to its opposite edge where we convened in the local park,
debating which of the selection of awful pitches we would
be playing on. In the end we had to settle on the pitch
with large bobbles and a serious decline from one
touchline to the other.

Team lined up as:
Nolan / Peter / Matty O / Jack
Steven / Sean McD
Con / Ren / Alex
Subs: Calbo/ Liam OG

It didn’t take us long to impose ourselves on the game
with a snap shot from Jake forcing the oppo GK into a
great save, but the ball was chucked out wide where Alex
was waiting. A quick step inside while the defender went
to get himself a hot dog from the stands and a ferocious
curling effort followed to put us into the lead. 0-1

Keen to build on this great start, a long ball up out
wide, sent Jake on the chase but was brutally brought down
by the defender who was clearly far burlier than him.
While on the floor, Jake thought about the uphill sprints
for the next 80 minutes and decided to call it a day. Alex
moved up front and Calbo slotted in on the left.

Moments later and a driven long throw from Con found Ren
standing alone in the oppo’s 6 yard box (he seemed as
surprised as the oppo did) a quick ball across the box to
an incoming Alex for the tap in. 0-2

We started to really control the game, with the oppo
finding it hard to get any rhythm in their play. Nolan
doing very well to keep the league’s top scorer quiet, and
the lads in the middle snuffing out any advances through
the centre. This led to some quite contentious comment
regarding Ren and his race, with shouts of “we can’t get
hold of the fat asian fella” heard across the whole park.

A long ball over the top from Reigations had their winger
1vs1 with Matty O and a bit of pace from the winger and a
soft tug on the shoulder and the ref had blown for the
pen. Up stepped the big fella to slot in a good pen past
an unlucky Ryan. 1-2

This seemed to kick them into gear and they started to
apply the pressure with some crude long ball football.
This paid off for them when a long throw was poorly dealt
with, and the big fella wins the first header and flicks
on to the waiting striker to volley into the top corner.
Shout out to Ryan for getting a hand to a great strike but
couldn’t quite keep it out. 2-2

At half time we knew we needed to get back on top and get
the momentum our way. The pitch was making playing
football very difficult but we knew we had the quality to
kick on. Liam came on for Nolan with his aerial presence
set to counter against the big chap.

At the start of the second half the ball seemed to be
allergic to the floor, long balls into advanced positions
from both teams saw a tricky period pass with neither team
seemingly able to get the ball down and play some
football. Luckily, newly appointed assistant manager Jake
is making all the big call’s now and Calbo swapped with
Alex while the gaffer watched with admiration.

Midfield trio was working tirelessly to cut out passes,
win the ball back and get it into offensive areas. We
finally managed to get hold of the ball, get it on the
deck and get it out wide to Jack. His long back post cross
fell nicely to Con and with one swing of the lefty, sledge
hammered a volley home. 3-2

There wasn’t a lot in the game but we always seemed to
have the upper edge. A oppo corner swung in saw the
attempted clearance bounce straight off one of the
opposing players and into the path of the forward to scuff
it into the goal. Not particularly deserved and a scrappy
goal for sure. 3-3

Pete, clearly fed up at conceding the equaliser decided it
was Conor’s fault and smacked the ball at his face at the
first opportunity he got. Chipped tooth and a middle
finger for his protests settled that.

There wasn’t many clear cut chances to finish the game
with Calbo having his shot from close range saved and Con
having his blocked on the follow up.

The oppo’s grumpy right back decided late on that he’d had
enough of ‘the fat asian fella’ and took out his
frustration of a dodgy hair cut (aka Skreks donkey)
stamping down on Ren. Handbags quickly followed with the
ref brandishing a red card for Shrek’s best mate and a
yellow for the reaction from the fat asian fella.

All in all the draw preserved unbeaten 2018’s for both
teams and was probably a fair result in a tough
environment to play.

Man went to Steven for an absolute machine like
performance with tireless pressing, screaming at Ren,
interceptions galore, screaming at Ren, and the occasional
pass to a player on the same team. (Tommy Martin would
have been so proud)

Muppet was split between Jack and Ren. Ren for being a fat
asian fella. And Jack for not launching the ball into the
box from his free kick with 10 seconds left of the game
and the oppo down to 10 men.

Move on to next week with our final home game of the
season (it might not even be at home) looking to get
straight back on the winning train.

Sean McD broke the pre-match news that his Friday night
celebrations were due to the news of a new arrival- a baby
McD is due to appear in October
Congrats to Sean and Chloe

Up the blues.
