Old Ignatian 4s 1 – 3 Old Camdenians
Scorers: Platon
This weekend was a difficult for the club as a whole fielding four teams with the fours losing Pubes to the 2s, Rockethead and Flapper to the 3s. After replacing them on Saturday the fours lost two to late cry-offs and both Geezer and the Horseshead were given to the 2s so that they didn’t play with 8 players!!! The fours welcomed Micky Ward, Pete Johnston and for his first game in 5 years Mick’s brother Larry.
The fours started with Grandad Jr in goal, with Rob, the Hitman, Mick and Luke at the back. Larry, PJ, Dave and Beau in the middle and DVD and Rooney up top.
The first 5 minutes was a bit tentative, but with a through ball DVD ran on to the ball racing with the oppos left back, getting into the area with another defender coming towards him took an opportunistic shot to go under the keeper and into the net. 1-0 to the 4s
The next 10 minutes the I’s came under intense pressure as Camdenians are very good at set pieces but we managed to deal with that pressure. A wonderful from PJ to Rooney put him into the area to cross in to DVD where he kneed the ball with his thigh then proceeded to lob the keeper with a header which in the end landed onto the foot of the post, unlucky to make it 2-0!
The game was level pegging up to half time where the score remained at 1-0.
The 2nd half completely changed with the oppo making a double substitution. 10 minutes into the game Camdenians equalized with a shot towards goal which was diverted by Luke’s toe into the goal. 1-1
This is where the ref who had broken his reffering virginity by reffing his first game came into his own, where the oppos left winger crossed into the box when the ball was off the field of play and Old I’s players stopped thinking the ref saw it. However the ref did not read that script and proceeded to award the goal! 2-1. Scene 2 where the ref took centre stage, he fails to spot a blatant offside to make it 3-1 to the oppo. The game’s score could have been worse with Grandad Jr deciding to make 2 brilliant saves where he managed to get his body in the way of the ball when the oppo had a second shot in their attack, however it’s more like the oppo kicked it where the keeper was!
Apart from that it was a good battle however things took a turn for the worse when two of Camdenian’s players decide to turn the match into a boxing match. Granted the 1st incident started when Rooney decided to push a player in the back after Rooney and the oppo had a battle on the left, but the oppo decided that a punch to the face of an unaware Rooney was the right course of action. The Hitman who was not happy that one of our schoolboys got attacked by an “adult” so he jogged towards Rooney’s attacker however he did not get that far because he too was given an unsuspecting punch to the jaw by Albert (rumour has it he sparred with Frank Bruno). Those two players got sent off and deservedly so as this is a football match and not a boxing match.
It seemed like a scene from Sunday football not from Saturday Old Boy’s football!
Well done to Grandad Jr for getting man of the match
