1st XI v Challoners – League  (Home) Tues 27/04/2010

Draw 1-1 Scorer: Chris Lowry

An evening kick off an Loyola saw a decent turn out on the spectator front but we weren’t able to take advantage of the support as we ended up dropping a couple of vital points. We once again stated off brightly enough, Chris Lowry saw an early chance saved low down by the Challoners keeper. Despite our possession we couldn’t find the break through and Challoners – fighting to stay in the division – were clearly not going to lie down and roll over.

Martin was untroubled in the first half although Matt picked up a booking when he brought down a Challoners player who looked to be through on goal – the ref deciding on a yellow rather than red. The first half finished goalless.

We went behind once again but this time after one of those freakish occurrences. A Challoners corner was whipped in at fast pace and the ball flew straight into the top far corner.  At the other end, Brendan saw a header rebound back off a post and a few other half chances were created without us really looking dominant.

Chris Lowry got us back on level terms. A short corner between Tom and Conor saw Chris rise well to meet Conors cross and plant a firm header down past the keeper. We huffed and puffed but were unable to find a winning goal with Liam coming closest when his low shot was pushed round the foot of the post.

Martin was relatively untroubled but it would be hard to argue that Challoners didn’t deserve a point. It gives them a chance to stay up and for us, our fate is entirely in our own hands, which with four games to go, isn’t a bad position to be in.
